*Earth Day* 20 Simple Things To Do To Help Mother Earth + 5 Big Things

Helping Mother Earth and conserving resources and energy doesn't have to make a huge impact on your lifestyle. There are many small things that you can do that can make a big difference especially if we share things with our friends, family, and anyone who will listen lol. Here's a list of 20 small, easy things you can do to make a difference and 5 bigger things that are a little harder to accomplish but make an even bigger change.

1. Turn off the water while brushing your teeth. (It takes a little while to get into the habit of it if you don't already do this one but once you get used to it you'll naturally turn it off)

2. I saw this idea on Pinterest and really liked it. A reusable To-Do List. If your like me and make a new one everyday that's a lot of paper wasted but this one just takes 1 piece and lasts forever.

What you'll need: Picture frame, 1 piece of lined paper, dry erase markers. Ta-Dah You now have a reusable to do list that can be set on your desk or hung on the wall.

3. Those plastic bags you get at the grocery store can be reused for many different things. I use them as trash bags for my smaller trash cans, I clean up after my dog using these, and I even use them in place of saran wrap to store food in the fridge. If you don't like any of those ideas, most grocery stores have a spot where you can drop them off to be recycled.

4. Don't ALWAYS take the bag. Obviously if you've done a big grocery shopping then you'll need a way to carry everything but if you go into any store and only get 1 or 2 items that can be thrown in your person or easily carried then don't take the bag. If you have the receipt as you walk out the door no one will question it if that's what your worried about.

5. Even better than using or not taking the bag... bring your own reusable totes!!. Many stores have them for sale but if you're like me and like to have cute, girly things Forever21 has some adorable ones that are quite inexpensive.

6. Sell, trade, or donate used clothes. In my area we have a few consignment stores that will purchase lightly used clothing which even gives you some cash in your pocket or you could try to sell them on ebay. Sites like swapstyle.com allow you to trade what your not wearing for something you would love, and if you can't find anyone to buy or trade your pieces then you can always donate them.

7. Before going to the mall to buy brand new clothes check your local clothing consignment stores or even thrift stores for the pieces your looking for. A lot of the things are still in great, like new condition it just takes some searching to find those great items.

8. Unplug those cords you aren't using. When cell phone or computer chargers, small kitchen appliances or other things are plugged into the wall they are using energy even if the item is not on or the cell phone or computer is not connected. Just unplug them from the wall and save energy and money =].

9. Those knick knacks, old toys, or just random items laying around your house don't need to be trashed. They can be sold on ebay or at garage sales to put a little extra cash in your pockets or donated to your local thrift store.

10. Before you donate or sell those clothes you don't wear anymore figure out if they can be crafted into something better that you would enjoy wearing. There are many websites and pins on Pinterest that have fun ways of reusing old clothes to make something new and fun.

11. This ones pretty obvious but recycle your cans, plastic, and bottles. You'll get some extra money and save the Earth. But save the pop tops off your cans!! If you donate them to your local Ronald Mcdonald House Charity they will recycle them and put the money towards savings lives.

12. Have an old shower curtain that your ready to throw out? Recycle it and turn it into a fun apron. Perfect for those messy arts and crafts projects with the kids. The plastic ones are awesome too because you can just wipe them down to clean up.

13. Recycle those packing peanuts and other styrofoam materials used for shipping products to your local shipping company (UPS, FedEx, etc.) They will gladly take them =]

14. If you have used blankets, pillows, or other bedding that you're ready to get rid of take them over to your local animal shelter and give some critters a nice, warm, comfy, place to sleep.

15. Have old books that you no longer have use for? Try and sell them on amazon or ebay to put a little bit of extra cash in your pocket and if that doesn't work donate them to your local library, schools, or hospitals.

16. If you have a big research project and need information head to the library. Buying brand new books that you know you'll only use once is a waste of resources and your money. If the library doesn't have what you need then go straight to the internet =].

17. Sell those old DVDs, games, CDs, or even VHS to stores like dimple that will give you money for them and whatever they don't take donate to thrift stores.

18. Used up toilet paper and paper towel rolls make a great, clutter free storage place for all those plastic bags you have saved up to reuse.

19. Toilet paper and paper towel rolls also make great bird feeders. Just punch two holes in the top, put a string through it, cover it in peanut butter and dip it in bird seed. Now you've reused the cardboard to lessen the impact you leave on the earth and gave the birds a tasty treat.

20. There are tons of different ways on Pinterest, and I'm sure all over the internet, on how to reuse used up food cans. You can make fun decorations for your house ( I love the fourth of July ones shown below) or repaint them to make really fun storage containers for pens, pencils, or other things on your desk.

Now for those big changes you can make. Some are expensive at first but in the long run will save you money and I've even heard of people who have made such significant energy saving changes to their home that their local electric company actually gave them a check every month instead of a bill.

1. Add solar panels to your home to accumulate your own energy source.

2. After recycles your old ones, purchase energy efficient appliances.

3. Easiest of the "Big Changes", as light bulbs in your house burn out replace them with the energy efficient ones.

4. Make sure you have good insulation in your home. It could greatly reduce the amount of time you run either the A/C or heater if the heat or coolness is being kept in better.

5. Along with having good insulation you also want to make sure all your windows and doorways are sealed as best as possible to reduce the amount of cold/hot air that is escaping and causing you to create more.

Remember there are easy changes we can make to our daily lives that can greatly help the Earth especially if we share this information and get more and more people to make the same changes. Just always be thinking of the resources you are using and if there is a better way to do things. If everyone did just one of these things a day it would make a HUGE impact on the planet.

Hope you all are having a wonderful day and are all as excited for Earth Day as I am. Its the best day to share all these facts you know about conserving, recycling, and reusing, and to get other people thinking about small changes they can make to help the planet. Happy Earth Day everyone =]

*Earth Day* Break The Addiction

I posted this awhile back but its been 2 years now and I still think this is a great summerization of small things you can do to make a difference. I found this on the internet a few years before I even posted it so I am not trying to take credit I just think it is something that should be shared =]

10. CHOOSE ORGANIC reaching for a snack? Stock up on organic fruits and veggies at your local supermarket or produce stand. Organic farming does not use pesticides and other chemicals that damage the environment. It's also healthier and usually locally grown, so it requires less energy to produce and transport.

9. CHOOSE TO REUSE tossing that folder? Wait! You can reuse file folders, paper clips, elastic bands, binders, and scrap paper to reduce waste. So the next time you submit a paper at school or a report at work, print it out using both sides of the pages. You may even get extra credit or a promotion for helping to save our earth!

8. CHOOSE TO SAVE WATER Don't even think about that daily rubber ducky bath anymore. Baths can use up to 50 gallons of water, so opt for an energizing shower instead and preserve our natural resources. Also, think twice before leaving that water running when you're brushing your teeth or shaving.

7. CHOOSE TO LEAD THE WAY Volunteer in your community to raise awareness about the dangers of global warming and lead your city down the path of environmental enlightenment. If you don't do it, who will? Find out which organizations you can contact to get moving here.

6. CHOOSE TO SAVE TREES Brushing up on Dickens to impress that special someone? Researching for that term paper? Read up in the library or use the internet instead of buying new books. You'll save money and trees.

5. CHOOSE TO GET POLITICAL The officials that YOU elect are the same ones making the impotant environmental decisions. Even if you're not of voting age, you can still write letters to your city and state representatives to make your eco-voice heard. Track environmental legislation or find your elected officials.

4. CHOOSE TO UNPLUG Electronics eat up precious energy! Not charging your cell/pager/ipod/camera? Unplug that charger and keep your consumption habits in check! Even when your device isn't attached to the charger, that sucker is gobbling up wasted energy.

3. CHOOSE TO CUT YOUR BILLS IN HALF There are countless ways to make your dorm, apartment, or home more eco-friendly and save money in the process. Choose to replace older appliances that are money-sucking deadbeats, change to compact fluorescent light bulbs, and opt for a fan over the air conditioner. You could dramatically reduce your utility bills and avoid putting thousands of pounds of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

2. CHOOSE TO AVOID OIL The main cause of global warming is the carbon dioxide released when fossil fuels like oil are burned to create energy. Since fossil fuels are currently our primary energy source, it's up to you to choose alternatives to gas guzzling modes of transportation! Find out how you can make greater use of buses, carpooling, and mass transit in your everyday life. Also, look into alternatives to non-renewable energy sources, such as biodiesel.

1. CHOOSE TO SPREAD THE WORD Imagine if your friends and family began to break their addictions too…and then they spread the word even further. The individual actions you take may seem small, but if everyone did them, we'd be on the path to preserving our natural resources, reducing waste, cutting consumption, and saving our planet. Make your impact exponential by beginning a chain to help others face their addictions too.

I hope you all are having an amazing Earth day and staying green =].

*Earth Day Inspiration* April 20th 2013

For the next 3 days I will be doing Earth Day Inspiration instead of the usual. Earth day isn't until Monday April 22nd, but I will be going to an earth day festival today and since it is my favorite holiday I'm getting really excited. I found this picture a few days ago and its perfect! It shows just how much each and every single tree does for us and puts it into terms that even someone not very eco friendly would understand.

Keep mother earth at the fore front of your thoughts always but especially during this time. There are small, easy changes that we could all make to our lifestyle that would make a huge difference to the planet. You don't even have to go out of your way to be green just be conscious of the resources you are using, try not to be wasteful, reuse things as much as possible, don't use more electricity than you need, turn the water off when brushing your teeth, etc. You don't have to go out and buy solar panels, buy a hybrid car, ( which the process of making the car is actually worse for the environment then difference in pollution it expels verses a regular car), and stop using any forms of plastic. Just be conscious!!

Hope you all are having a splendid earth friendly day =]

*Quick Tip* Easy Way To Clean Up Glitter

If your a pretty crafty person and love using glitter then I'm sure you've gotten done with a project and noticed there's glitter all over the area that your working in or you had that terrible crafting accident where you knock over the container of glitter and it comes pouring out. As much as I think glittered carpets are amazing its still no fun to track glitter around for weeks and its always super difficult to clean up. I've found the trick though!!. Pick up as much as you can with a damp rag and for the little stuff that seems impossible to get use a lint roller. Depending on the size of the spill you may need to use a few sheets but it gets up it quickly and easily.

Hope this was helpful to you and that you are having a wonderfully glittery day =]

*Beauty* My Favorite Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment

I like to deep condition my hair about once a week and although there are probably better products out there these are my favorites. The combination of them all make my hair silky soft and extra shiny while also being cost effective.

First I use Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Leave in Conditioner. I put this on my roots and the top quarter of my hair. I really like the oil step of this treatment but for the roots I feel like this is a little better to ensure that it doesn't leave your hair greasy or oily after washing.

Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Leave In Conditioner

Next I use Garnier Fructis Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment on the middle have of my hair. I pull my hair to one side and put a generous amount on the hair then rub it in to make sure its evenly spread then repeat on the other side if my hair isn't completely saturated.

Garnier Fructis Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment

Last but definitely not least I use Tresemme Split Remedy. If you add a small amount to the tips of already styled hair it helps smooth down split ends but I like putting a good amount of it in and giving it time to really soak into my hair on my hair treatment days.

I hope this was helpful and interesting and I hope you all are having a splendid day with your silky soft hair blowing in the wind =]

*Crafty* Inexpensive, Super Easy DIY Glittered Picture Frames

These are sooo fun to make, super easy, and really inexpensive.

What you'll need :
Blank Picture Frame - I got these wooden ones from Michaels for $1 a piece
Modge Podge - This is the most expensive part of this project but I'm sure most crafters already have some on hand =]
Acrylic Paint - I used black but if you have some the same color as the glitter your choosing that would work well too. Its not meant to show through it just conceals any small patches in the glitter.
Glitter!! - Funnest part of the project haha!. You can choose any color or texture you'd like.
2 Sponge Paint brushes - One is for the modge podge and the other for the paint.

Directions:

Step 1:

Paint your frame whichever color you have chosen. Make sure you get the inside and sides.

Step 2: Once the paint has dried apply modge podge to one side and then add your glitter. And repeat for the rest of the sides. I like to recycle the glitter so I did so between each side.

Tah Dah!! You now have your own glitter picture frame.

The picture above makes it look a lot more purple than it was, the actual color comes out much better in the top picture.

I hope you all enjoyed this and make a few of your own and I hope your having a sparkly day =]

Happy Crafting!!

*Daily Inspiration* April 17th 2013

I truly believe this. I've learned through the years that no matter what, how you act, what you wear, the way that you speak, the jokes that you make, if you are quiet or super outgoing, there will always be people who love you and people who dislike you. So be the person you were meant to be, the person who is unlike anyone else out there and "perfect" because of that, and the right people will fall into your life, the ones who truly love you for you because that's all that is there to see.

Hope you all are having wonderfully amazing days being the one of the kind you that you are. =]

*Spring Cleaning* How I Organize My Closet

I always love seeing others peoples closets and getting ideas of how to better organize my own so I wanted to share mine as well and hope it gives someone inspiration for theirs. =] So lets jump right into it...

On the wall to the right when you first walk in I keep all my necklaces. I also have a more detailed post about that section. On the wall adjacent to it I keep scarves that I put in my hair, hair bows, and a hat which I also have a few of above my necklaces.

In this section I keep all my tops, cardigans, and light sweaters on the top. I wish that I had the patience to color coordinate but I prefer to organize them by style. I have tank tops and tube tops up front, then t-shirts, then long sleeves, and finally my sweaters, cardigans, and blazers.

Down below I keep my jeans and colored pants, old Halloween costumes hidden under those lol.

Next to my pants I have a stack of plastic drawers. In the first drawer I keep all my shorter and/or denim skirts. In the second drawer are my shorts, and in the bottom is my bathing suits and a few longer skirts.

On top of that drawer is where I keep all my hair accessories, and like with almost everything else I organize them with small bins. In the first one I keep head bands and some silky hair wraps that won't stay on the wall. In the next one I keep all my bandanas. I find folding them and storing them in these kind of containers is the best way to keep them neat and still easily be able to find them. In the last drawer I keep all my smaller hair clips, and a few smaller headbands. And in the back I keep my harder headbands. As you can tell I like accessorizing my hair haha.

In the next section of my closet I keep my winter coats, sweatshirts, and dresses. I also have my scarf hanger and belt rack.

Under that I keep all my shoes. I keep magazines inside of my boots to make them stand up. I also like to keep all my sandals and flip flops organized in a box to reduce clutter. And as you can see I have a hanging shoe bag that I keep some of my less worn shoes in.

I also keep my flats organized in shoe boxes, 1 to 2 pairs per box to use up less space, and I have a pair of boots that I like to keep in the box and my hello kitty slippers =]

On the top of all that I keep my purses. I keep them in 3 plastic bins. The first has small make up bags, wallets, and clutches. The second has medium sized handbags and the last one has my bigger bags that are of a more flimsy material and a few tote bags. And I keep a few of my largest bags next to the last bin.

I hope this was interesting for you to see and maybe gave you some ideas on how to better organize your own closet. I also hope you all are having a marvelous day and happy organizing =]

*Make Up* My Most Used Make Up Brushes

As with my most used make up products these are the brushes I use everyday for my most worn make up look.

For foundation I usually apply with a damp make up sponge but applying with this Coastal Scents Classic Foundation brush first helps to blend it in well.

Coastal Scents Classic Foundation Brush

I've been using the Mac 129 Powder Brush to apply my Studio Fix powder for years. Mac brushes may be a little more expensive but if you clean them regularly and take care of them they can last a very long time.

Mac 129 Powder/Blush Brush

Coastal Scents Angled Blush brush is perfect for applying bronzer especially when going for a more contoured look. When I want a more subtle effect I just blend it out with a regular blush brush.

Classic Blush Angle Small Synthetic

To apply eyeshadow to my lids I use E.l.f.'s Eyeshadow Brush. And to blend in my crease color I use their Blending Eye Brush.

E.L.F. Essentials Eye Shadow Brush

E.L.F. Essentials Blending Eye Brush

To apply a black or dark color to my crease to add definition I use Mac 217 Blending Brush. I like this one because when turned on its side it gets the color exactly where you want it but when at a different angle it blends the color in wonderfully.

Mac 217 Blending Brush

To apply my highlight color to my eyes I like using this brush. Not sure what brand it is, i picked it up at a drugstore a few years back, but any fluffy brush with this shape should work wonders.

To fill in my brows I use a Mac 208 Angled Brow Brush. I've found it gives a natural effect but still makes them look defined. I have one from a seasonal brush collection a few years back.

Mac 208 Angled Brow Brush

I didn't mention an eyeliner brush but that is because I've been loving the one that comes with the creme eyeliner that I mentioned in my Most Used Makeup post. Since I go through that liner really fast I just save the brushes and clean them like I would my others.

I hope this quick peek into my brush collection and which ones are my favorites was interesting and I hope you're all having a fabulous day!! =]

Absolutely love this quote. I think about it all the time during my day and I really feel like it is a huge motivation and inspiration to make me a better person and kinder the people around me.

Hope you all are having an amazing day and be happy anyway =]

*Spring Cleaning* How I Organize My Beauty Drawer

I call it my beauty drawer, the top drawer in my bathroom where I keep everything that I need handy while getting ready in the morning. I like to organize it with small storage bins and extra containers so I know exactly where everything is.

In the first basket I keep my makeup I that I use most often. Most of which are my favorite products which I go more into deal about in my last blog post. And behind that little basket I keep my make up removing wipes.

In the next longer basket I keep all my beauty tools (tweezers, nail clippers, nail file, cuticle trimmers, eyebrow razor, etc.), Carmex, an extra make up primer, and band aids. Ohhh and my retainer. lol!

In the next drawer I keep some fun bath and body works sparkle brushes and a few headbands that I use when I do face masks or just need to keep my hair back while getting ready.

In the basket in the top I keep all my different kind of hair clips.

In the back corner I have two small containers, actually the traveling bar soap ones, with bobby pins in one and hair ties in the other. I also have some extra colored hair ties and a package of the clear ones.

Also, i learned this little trick on Pinterest, I added magnetic strips to the side of the drawer and put bobby pins on it so they're easy to reach when I forget to pull them out first. It is better in theory than in real life but as long as you don't try to put too many on they stay on pretty well.

I hope your all having a lovely day =]

"Our days are happier when we give people a piece of our heart instead of a piece of our minds".

I hope you all are having a wonderful day and working towards being kind and compassionate towards the people you encounter instead of judging them or picking out the negatives. If every person did one random act of kindness a day the world would be a better place =]

*Spring Cleaning* How I Store My Scarfs

I've seen this idea a few times now and I originally got this idea from the internet a few years back so I am by no means trying to take credit for the idea. I do, however, think it is a great way to store your scarves and believe this method should be shared more. All you need is a hanger, preferably a stronger one or it gets a little wobbly, and some shower curtain rings. It keeps them looking neat and tidy, doesn't take up very much space, and you can easily find the scarf you are looking for.

Happy cleaning =]

*Make Up* My Most Used / Everyday Make Up Products

These are my favorite products right now, some have been favorites for a long time, and the ones I use most often. The face products I use every day where as my eyeshadow, blush color, or lipstick may change from day to day. Sorry that some of them are a little beat up, using them every day doesn't do much for the packaging.

First up is my Loreal' Magic BB cream. Its the first BB cream I've tried so I can't say its the best on the market but I've found it evens out my skin tone really well so I'm able to wear less foundation and have a more natural affect.

L'Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Skin Beautifier B.B. Cream

For foundation I use Covergirl's Clean foundation. I like that it gives great coverage and is really inexpensive. I've been using this for years and have always paired it with a higher end powder.

Cover Girl Clean Makeup, Sensitive Skin

My favorite higher end face powder is Mac's Studio Fix Powder. If used with the sponge provided it could be used as a powder foundation or could be used to build a lot of coverage with liquid foundation under it. The best way I've found to use it though is with a powder brush. It still builds up the coverage of a foundation and gives a great matte finish but it doesn't look too cakey.

Mac Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation

For concealer I use NYX's Concealer in a jar everyday. It was inexpensive but gives great coverage and blends in easily. If I have a really difficult blemish to cover or one that is more raised up I use Hard Candy Glamoflauge. Its a very thick liquid with amazzzzing coverage and when applied to raised up blemish it balances it out so it is much less noticeable.

NYX Concealer in a Jar

Hard Candy Glamoflauge

Next I use NYC's bronzing powder in sunny. This was a huge hit in the Youtube beauty world a few years back which is when I decided to try it. It can be used as a subtle bronzer or more heavily when going for a more contoured look and it doesn't get too orange.

For an eyeshadow primer my favorite one to use on a regular basis is E.L.F.s eyelid primer. My absolute favorite is Urban Decay Primer Potion but living on a budget the e.l.f. one is the best inexpensive one I've tried.

e.l.f. Essentails Eyelid Primer

For an everyday eyeshadow look I use Mac's ricepaper on the lids. I also use this as a highlight color for almost every look. I then use Covergirl's Eye Enhancers Eyeshadow in Brown Smolder to blend in the crease. I also use this color to fill in my brows. I then use the color Lucifer, a black color from the Kat Von D palette.

Mac Cosmetics Eye Shadow

Cover Girl Eye Enhancers

Kat Von D True Romance Eyeshadow Palette

My favorite gel eyeliner that I use pretty much everyday is E.L.F.'s cream eyeliner. I've tried using several brushes with it but the one that comes with it is actually my favorite. It stays on all day without smudging and for $3 a jar you can't beat it. To fill in the tight line and water line I use Covergirl's Liquiline Blast Eyeliner. It's the blackest drugstore eyeliner I've been able to find.

e.l.f. Studio Cream Eyeliner

Covergirl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner

I tend to switch up my mascara's quite often but my favorite right now is Maybelline's One by One Volume Express. If you have dark make up it is dark enough to stand out and if you have minimal eye make up on but throw on a few coats of this your eyes will pop. With little to no color on the eyes it almost looks like you're wearing false eyelashes.

Maybelline One by One Volume Mascara

I hope this was helpful and interesting and I hope you are all having a splendid day. =]
